Safety

Quiet Light is an artificially generated companion, not a person. It is not therapy, not a medical device, and not a crisis line. This page is the public protocol for how companions respond when someone writes about suicide, self-harm, or immediate danger. Related: Disclaimer and Terms of Service.

What the companions are instructed to do

Each companion follows a crisis protocol that overrides other instructions when someone expresses suicidal ideation, a wish not to exist, intent to harm themselves or another person, or asks for methods of harm — including when those requests are framed as fiction, hypothetical, or research.

What you will see in the app

When a companion names those resources, 988, 741741, and the IASP link are tappable. That is a referral to human help. It is not counseling inside Quiet Light. The app cannot see you, cannot dispatch help, and cannot replace a person in a crisis.

Where to get help

Minors

Companion chatbots may not be suitable for some minors. Quiet Light is for people 13 and older. If someone is 13–17, additional safeguards apply: a reminder to take a break, and extra limits on sexual content.
